The Okuma Recreation Facility is located in the Northern area of Okinawa and is perfect for relaxing and taking photographs. This military resort is well manicured, sunset/sunrise friendly and has well designed walking paths and scenic points. Okuma is like a photographer’s playground. The walking paths are strategically placed to accommodate viewing Okinawa’s beautiful sunrise and sunset. My family stayed for two nights and I got up for sunrise both mornings. There are plenty of photo friendly spots so be sure to recon the area during daylight so your morning sunrise goes smoothly. Don’t forget to turn away from the sunrise and capture the morning light hitting Okuma’s awesome rock formations and cliffs.
There are private little beach bungalows, log cabins, cottages, suites and tent camping on the beach. Prices are very cheap compared to Okinawa hotels and range from $10 a night for camping to $65 a night for suites and my recommendation is the $150 a night private bungalow. See below for a sunrise shot of my recommendation. The little market/shopette is small but has many of the necessities you may need. The restaurant offers family friendly breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Sunday buffet was $9.50 and very tasty.
Okuma Resort is also a great spot to stay for access into Okinawa’s Northern coastline and waterfalls. Places like Hiji Falls, Aha Falls, and the Northern tip of Okinawa called Cape Hedo is within 15 minutes driving distance.
