Probably the most famous landmark in Okinawa is Shuri Castle. After visiting this place you will know why. There are photo ops around every brick of this castle. Just when you think you have seen everything, another must have photograph pops out at you! So much fun. At the entrance to Shuri Castle is a large Torii gate you must walk under before trekking up the hill. You might have to wait a little while but eventually people will stop walking by. Usually the tourist will stop in front and pose for a picture. This can be frustrating but it is worth the wait. The option to take stairs or a gradual path is a choice you get to make. Both directions have great photo ops. I recommend taking the stairs up and the walkway down. Once at the top there are plenty of trails leading to all sorts of goodies for photographers. There are Japanese style homes, cool trees, and a view of the city which is amazing! Be sure to explore the entire area before making your decent. The tree of life is located along the trail just before a gate guard. The roots and tree is a must photograph! I used a 10-20mm wide angle lens with tripod to get my shot. The Okinawa Photography Tour was a success! We had a great time and the castle staff were perfectly okay with cameras running around. The Shurijo Castle is highly recommended. Hope you enjoy the photographs!
